It is important that you download a gedcom that will be compatible with the geneaolgy softward you are using. I use Legacy 7 standard edition, which is a great program that can be obtained for free here. If none of the gedcoms available for download will work with your particular software, please contact me for additional help.
The files are named to indicate what they contain and how they can be used. For example if you are interested in the Tidwell line and are using PAF version 5, you would want to download the file Tidwell_Family_PAF5.ged. Once the file is imprted you may get errors due to some cutsom notes that legacy allows but PAF does not. This is normal and as far as I know can't be helped in the conversion of one file type to another.
If all else fails try the generic gedcom... never used it but its worth a shot.
